The Role

As an Accounting Technician, you will play a vital part in ensuring the smooth financial operation of Hazlett’s Procurement Business Unit. This role involves managing key accounting functions, including livestock payments, bank reconciliations, and monthly reporting, while supporting the unit’s commitment to operational excellence.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week), based at our Burnside, Christchurch office.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform daily banking duties, including processing livestock, cartage, and grazing payments.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and and other financial accounts.
  • Manage invoicing and maintain accurate financial records.
  • Prepare month end accounts
  • Assist in monthly financial reporting, year end accounts, annual budgets and forecasts.
  • Assist in preparing data analysis that provide financial insights to support decision-making within the Procurement Business Unit.
  • Ensure financial systems (e.g., Xero) are accurately maintained and updated.
About You 
  • You’re a proactive and detail-oriented professional with a strong accounting background who thrives in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.
  • Relevant experience or training in accounting, bookkeeping, or financial administration.
  • The ability to thrive in an environment where change is normal.
  • Proficiency in Xero and Microsoft Excel (intermediate to advanced).
  • A high level of numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
